A study of children emotion and their performance while handwriting Arabic characters using a haptic device

Abstract Emotion and focus of children during handwriting are essential for language learning. Handwriting young is challenging because it needs deep motivation willingness to complete the task regardless its difficulty. Recently, emerged haptic guidance systems have a good potential offer better sense engagement keep their interests awake. Yet, in 3D more due many reasons including demotivation, out focus, visuomotor coordination difficulties. In this paper, we study effectiveness device analyzing schoolchildren emotion, attentiveness performance Arabic letters. We conducted experiments period four weeks with an immersive environment where subjects practiced writing VR using device-controlled stylus. assessed childrens’ emotions get insights into such hard learning environment. found that our approach improved participants’ fine-motor skills quality. However, analysis revealed was effective on detecting (angry/neutral) only as negative/positive contributor performance. Overall, obtained findings can well contribute understanding relationship between students’ other variables attempt support development adaptive technologies.
